AEO
AEO stands for ‘authorised economic operator’. This status is not actually a permit per se, but rather a sign that the permit holder holds a special position of trust with customs offices. A differentiation is made between an AEOC = Customs simplifications and AEOS = Security.
FORMAT Software Service GmbH has the status AEOC and AEOS (so-called combined approval).
AEOs are intensively reviewed by customs agencies to ensure their ability to pay, to ensure they undertake security precautions and for their compliance to customs regulations. The primary purpose of the AEO designation is to grant customs concessions and simplify processes for ‘authorised economic operators’.
A risk profile is created for each company. The goal of official agencies is to reduce irregularities and fraud risks. ‘Authorised economic operators’ with a risk assessment of ‘good’ are granted customs concessions. This represents a competitive advantage, meaning that many companies involved in international trade see this status as a top priority. To achieve this status, a company must fulfil specifications requiring significant investments in software and technology.
